Swinging as a Couple: How to Agree Your Limits Before Meeting Another Pair
Step 1: Talk at home first
Settle your limits between the two of you before a single message goes to another couple. Once a chat starts, there is quiet pressure to say yes to keep it going, and decisions made at home hold up better.
Pick a calm, sober evening and go through these questions:
- Soft swap, full swap, or only watching?
- Same room the whole time, or separate rooms too?
- What is completely off the table, such as kissing or staying the night?
- What protection do we always use?
- How does either of us call a stop, and what is the signal?
Sort the answers into yes, maybe and no. Anything in the maybe column stays off the first meeting. Your shared limits are the overlap between you, so the more cautious partner sets the pace. Write the result down, because you will need it in step 3.
Step 2: Write one profile together
A joint profile written by both partners attracts couples who want the same evening. Before you write yours, read how experienced couples looking for couples describe themselves. The best profiles are short, specific and honest about limits.
Give each partner a line in their own voice, then cover:
- who you are and how much experience you have
- who you want to meet: a couple, a single woman, or friends who understand
- soft swap or full swap, same room or separate
- how you like to start, for example a call first and then a drink
Wording like this gets sensible replies:
We’re M (41) and J (38), together 12 years and new to this. Soft swap only for now, same room. We’d like a video call before we meet.
Keep public photos faceless and crop out anything that shows your street or workplace. On LinkSwingers, members see a rough distance in miles rather than an address, and a couple’s photo-check mark appears once both partners have passed it.
Step 3: Compare limits in writing with the other couple
Once a chat with another couple is going well, put both sets of limits side by side before arranging anything. All four people can reread a written list, and words like “soft swap” stop meaning different things to different pairs.
A short message works best:
Before we plan anything, here’s where we are:
– Soft swap only, same room
– Condoms always
– Kissing is fine for J, not for M
– Either of us can stop at any point
What does yours look like?
Be wary of vague replies (“we’re easy-going”), one partner always answering for both, or gentle pressure to drop a limit “once we’ve met”. Where your limits differ, the stricter one applies on the night. If the gap is wide, thank them and move on.
Step 4: Have a video call with all four of you
A ten-minute call with everyone on screen confirms the other couple is real, that both partners are keen and that the written limits still hold when said out loud.
Check that both partners appear and speak, that they match their photos, and that the quieter one seems relaxed. Before you hang up, repeat your limits aloud and hear everyone agree.
Keep phone numbers private at this stage. On LinkSwingers, private calls run inside the site once both sides have passed the photo check and the 18+ age check. One couple shares a 4-digit Call Code in the chat, the other enters it, and up to four people join one screen with no number exchanged.
End the call with a clear next step: a time and place for a drink, or a friendly “we’re not quite the right fit”.
Step 5: Keep the first meeting short and in public
The first meeting is a drink somewhere public, about an hour long, with nothing agreed beyond it. Its only job is to find out whether four people enjoy each other’s company.
- Choose a bar or café that is easy to reach and easy to leave, ideally not your local.
- Arrive separately and have your own way home.
- Agree a leaving time and a private “let’s go” signal between the two of you.
- Tell a friend where you are.
- Go easy on the alcohol, and don’t book a hotel room “just in case”.
If the evening goes well, go home anyway and decide together in the chat over the next day or two. If it didn’t click, a short, kind message is enough.
After the meeting: check in with each other
Talk at home within a day. What did each of you enjoy? Did anything feel uncomfortable, or did any limit come close to being tested? Update your profile if your limits have changed, and confirm them in writing again before any second meeting.
Each of these steps adds a little friction, and each one removes a way for the night to go wrong. Couples who follow all five arrive with nothing left to negotiate. That leaves the evening free for the part that matters: finding out whether you like each other.
